Destinations Note 22 · 4 min read · By Jonathan Riccobono

Why Mendocino is the perfect retreat destination for small teams

Fog, cliffs, redwoods and very little signal. For teams that need to go quiet before they can think clearly.

The feeling
Wild, quiet, unplugged

Mendocino is not on the way to anywhere. That is the point.

The drive in, along the river and through the redwoods, is a kind of decompression. By the time the ocean appears, people have already left the week behind.

Why small teams love it

There are no convention hotels here. There are inns, cottages and land. That means your team is not sharing a lobby with a sales conference. It means walks on the headlands at sunrise, dinners where everyone fits at one table, and the sound of the ocean at night.

The signal is patchy. We call that a feature.

How we use it

Mendocino is where we bring teams to think. A morning on the bluffs with a journaling prompt. A planning session in a room with a fireplace. An afternoon in the redwoods. Intuition Art, because the light here makes everyone want to make something.

Good to know

Summer brings fog. September and October bring the clearest, warmest days of the year. Plan on cars rather than shuttles, and give people a real arrival window. Rushing to Mendocino misses the point.

Some places entertain a team. Mendocino gives them back to themselves.
