Why Glen Arbor

A small town at the edge of the dunes.

Glen Arbor sits inside Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, between Lake Michigan and Glen Lake. It is a one-blinker town with a beach at the end of the street.

The scale is the point. There are no crowds to manage and no city to pull people away, just dune trails, clear water and long summer light.

Be honest about timing. Summer and early fall are glorious. From November to April many shops and restaurants close, so winter works only for a ski or snowshoe group based at a four-season resort.

We bring teams to Glen Arbor when they want real quiet and a landscape that makes everyone look up from their phones.

Questions

Planning a retreat in Glen Arbor.

How far is Glen Arbor from Chicago and Detroit?

About 5.5 to 6 hours by car from Chicago and about 5 hours from Detroit. Most teams fly into Traverse City (TVC) and drive about 40 minutes to Glen Arbor.

When is the best time for a retreat in Glen Arbor?

June through mid-October, with September and early October offering fall color and fewer visitors. From November to April the town is very quiet and many businesses close, so we only plan winter retreats around a ski or snowshoe program.

What size groups fit in Glen Arbor?

Small to mid-size groups work best. A 14-room inn suits an executive team, The Homestead handles groups of roughly 20 to 150, and Crystal Mountain can host a few hundred.

What can a team do in Glen Arbor?

Climb the Sleeping Bear dunes, paddle the Crystal River, swim in Glen Lake, drive Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive and taste local cherries, whitefish and Leelanau wines.

Who plans and runs the retreat?

The Renewal Office designs it around your goals using the TRO Six Pillars, then handles venue, programming, facilitators and production from the first call to the week after.
