Planning a sales kickoff that actually sells

Most kickoffs are a week of slides and a hangover. Here is how to send a team home ready to hit the number.

A team gathered for a kickoff presentation

A sales kickoff has one job: send the team into the new year aligned on the number and fired up to hit it.

Most kickoffs miss because they try to do everything. Here is how to build one that works.

Start with the number and the story.

Open with where the company is going and why this year matters. Then the number. People will run through walls for a goal they understand. They will not for a slide.

Fewer slides, more practice.

Product updates can be a video. Use the time together for what only works in person: role plays, deal reviews and the hard conversations about what is not working.

Recognize before you push.

Celebrate last year’s wins in front of the whole team. Recognition is fuel, and a team that feels seen sells harder.

Make room for one real night.

Not another open bar. A long-table dinner, a fireside conversation, a night under the stars. The bond your reps build here is what gets a teammate to jump on a call in March.

Reset the body, not just the plan.

Sales is a high-pressure job. A morning of breathwork or a sound bath before the strategy session is not a luxury. It is how you get clear thinking out of a tired team.

Small swaps, big difference Tap a card to flip it

Send them home with a 30-day plan.

Every rep should leave knowing their first three moves. Then check in at 30 days and watch the pipeline.

For the workshops we use and how we stage the awards night, read the sales kickoff, our way.

We design sales kickoffs the same way we design every retreat: around one goal, with programming chosen to get there.
